I was so excited to photograph the family of Pittsburgh florist May Chester. When we worked together on a few projects before, we had clicked instantaneously. Seeing her designs on those projects made it clear she is truly an artist! She brings a sense of beautiful life to all her floral pieces and designs. So I was sure her family would reflect that beauty and vitality. As a Pittsburgh family photographer, it is a joy to work with such a family. 

We had a beautiful family and a time set. All we needed for her family’s photo session was a setting as beautiful and artistic as she is.

Ultimately we decided the walled gardens at Mellon Park were perfect for documenting this beautiful time in their lives. Since they are a gorgeous and welcoming place in the middle of Pittsburgh, they fully reflect the life she captures in her floral designs. Her little ones truly love flora as much as their sweet mama. And they appreciated its beauty even as they played among its boughs.

Part of a family photography session is the “standard” portrait of everyone smiling for the camera — the pictures you give your grandma or hang up in your office. As a family photographer, I help these portraits become a glimpse into who a family is. The Chester family provided many such wonderful glimpses into their vibrant lives. They made it easy to turn “standard” photos into fine art family photography.
